Skyline HS LRCII teacher
Hello families!
We are off and running with the 2019-2020 school year! The first 3 days were a tad bit crazy with getting back into the routine of things and grasping the new 7 period schedule. Next week will bring some more new things--block schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday with FLEX time and finalizing student schedules. For a complete run-down of daily schedule times, please refer to the "Calendar" tab on the top of this page. Some important events to know about: Curriculum Night--September 19, 2019 5:30pm to 8:45pm Keynote speaker, information about Skyline clubs, and meet your student's teachers! During 'teacher time' I share my vision for the school year and the opportunities we hope to provide for your student to grow and succeed. You don't want to miss this! Homecoming! Sept. 27, 2019 (football game); Sept. 28, 2019 (dance) The LRCII program and LEAP club (more on this later...) usually host an extended evening in Rm. 2306 to include dinner, pictures, and socialization prior to the dance starting. If you would like to help during this event, please contact me. (Contact information is provided under the "Get In Touch" tab at the top of this page.) This is one of the most exciting events for our students and they get some exercise from dancing too! And lastly.... I want to thank you for sharing your student with me. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be at Skyline for my 2nd year teaching high school and look forward to sharing a FABULOUS, Spartan-rific year with all of you!!! All my best, Mrs. H (aka Mrs. Hummell or Ms. Renee) P.S. STAY TUNED for another post about vocational opportunities that are in store for our class this school year.

We are pending final time approval from the Theater Manager. The LEAP Club will be hosting an end of the year celebratory dance (formerly LEAP PROM). The dance will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 5-7PM. Seniors attending the dance will be able to participate in the Senior Sunset that will take place at Skyline beginning at 7:30. More details on the dance to follow. Hello students and families!
Just saying a quick hello, hope you are doing well and letting you know to check out the new information posted under the "Calendar" page. There are some very important details about end of the school year events and dates! I hope everyone is doing well! I, for one, am sure looking forward to some sunnier days ahead! :) Take care, Mrs. H Just a quick hello and HAPPY FRIDAY! We have been working hard at learning about energy, structuring reading groups, fractions, and doing vocational tasks. It seems that this year continues to fly by-only 5 more school days until Spring break!
Please look under the "calendar" tab for information about Semester 2 finals and the schedule for the last week of school. If you receive the Skyline E-News, make sure to read it--it has information about things for Seniors, testing, and a kind note from Mr. Hennig. As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions/concerns. LRC II is looking forward to planning end-of-the-year activities! Take care. Mrs. H Hello families! Samantha (other LRCII teacher) shared some information with the families in her class that I believe are important to share with all of you. Below are resources related to post-secondary transition planning. There is a lot to think about in the coming years. All 4 of the resources below will help you as you are thinking about planning for your child’s adulthood:

The Issaquah School District Special Services Department and The Arc of King County have partnered to offer FREE training sessions open to parents, guardians, caregivers and teachers of students with special needs.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions and/or concerns. Take care. Mrs. H The start of 2nd semester-half way through the school year?!?! Didn't we just meet at Curriculum Night? I have had a WONDERFUL time having your student in my class and learning from him/her. I am so very excited for the rest of the school year. :) Below is a run-down of some of the things we did in January/February and what to look forward to in March.
The snow fall impacted several plans in February (this is an understatement for some of us). We were able to celebrate Chinese New Year with Ms. Samantha's class on Friday, February 8th. Students participated in a small art project and learned about the Year of the Pig and the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year) while snacking on noodles and egg rolls. We also had visitors from the Chinese class at Skyline that painted fortunes on paper for students. Both classes got together for another celebration (Valentines Day) during the one partial school day prior to mid-Winter break. Thank you to everyone that sent/brought things for students to share (Mrs. H dropped the ball on this one....my apologies). Spending time with friends was a nice way to celebrate friendships and end the day before break. The class also learned about musicians during the months of January and February. We were going to go to the school drama play, but due to the snow (yet again), this did not happen. However, we were able to hear some talented musicians-a fellow student and teacher at Skyline-play the flute and piano. Of course we had Max play for us a few times as well. (I recorded a small piece of Max playing which I will attempt to load on the "pictures" page.) Another event that has begun is volunteering at the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank. Four students went to the orientation with Ms. Julie (SLP) and Ms. Natalia (UNS) on February 1st. It is now set up for rotating groups of 2 every Friday afternoon to assist with hanging up clothes. The students are expected to clock-in, report to a supervisor, complete tasks, and clock-out. Ms. Julie and Ms. Natalia did a wonderful job making a visual for students to follow independently. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions/concerns about this volunteer opportunity. Based on the calendar, March's focus is veterinarian! I *hope* to schedule a field trip to an animal shelter or some type of animal care facility. I know some students have pets so they will be invited to share about their responsibilities for taking care of their pet(s), as well as learn more about service animals, animal care, and what it takes to be a veterinarian. If you have any contacts in the animal field, please feel free to share! Take care! Mrs. H :) I hope all of you had a wonderful break spent with family and friends. 2019 is going to be a GREAT year in our classroom! We have 5 (of 10) students that will be moving on to bigger and better things come June. Only 6 more months to make the most of this school year, learn new things and experiences, make memories, and be successful Spartans!
Lastly, I would like to thank each and every one of you for giving me and the staff the opportunity to teach and learn with your student. All of us are so very grateful to be a part of your student's success and happiness. Go Spartans!!! Mrs. H How can it be 3 days until Winter Break? This month has FLOWN by! Here is a little run-down of what we have done and/or learned about this month~
*Completed the Clothing Drive at the end of November/beginning of December. Students are going on a field trip TUESDAY, DEC 18th to take all of the donations (several bags) to the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank. Stay tuned for future volunteer opportunities starting with Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank. *December we have been learning about chefs and bakers--how they are different, the tools each uses in the classroom (students made a great Venn diagram to learn this), our favorite things to bake/cook, and for the past week--baking up a storm! We have been baking as a part of our "community service project" for December. Our focus is to give and thank staff around Skyline that play an important part of running the school and keeping us safe. This week (Dec. 17-19th) we will be finishing up gifts and delivering them, including practicing our communication skills. There also *may* be a little something coming home on Wednesday from your student so keep your eyes open! :) Keep a lookout for what is coming up in January! |
